Hail Hydra

  • 5-8 players

Setup

  • Choose heroes (special abilities are one time use)
  • Set up villains in a stack, face down
    • 1x level one
    • 2x level two
    • 1x level three
    • Red skull
  • Avengers tower health tracker on 27
  • Pass out Loyalty tokens (secret!):
    • 5 players: 3x shield, 2x hydra
    • 6 players: 4x shield, 2x hydra
    • 7 players: 4x shield, 3x hydra
    • 8 players: 5x shield, 3x hydra
  • Choose start player
  • Hand out shuffled attack cards:
    • Player to the left of start, 2x cards
    • Next player, 4x cards
    • All other players, 6x cards
  • Hydra agents identify each other (app or heads down)

Game Turn

  1. (skip on first turn) Pass first player token to the left.
    • Player with token discards (face down) ALL attack cards and draws 6 new ones
    • All other players draw 1 attack card
  2. Player with token plays 1-3 attack cards face down in front of them. Continue in order with all other players (that are NOT knocked out). You MUST play a card.
  3. Collect attack cards, shuffle, reveal
    • If positive, deal that damage to the villain.
    • If negative:
      • 0 to -10, nothing happens
      • Below -10, damage city by 1 (this is not the villain's attack)
  4. If the villain is still alive, perform the villain's attack.
  5. Discard attack cards face down, repeat these steps if villain is not defeated

If a villain is defeated

  • Enter a voting round or rounds.
    • Facing a 2 skull villain: 1 round
    • Facing a 3 skull villain: 2 rounds
    • Facing Red Skull (5-6 players): 2 rounds
    • Facing Red Skull (7-8 players): 3 rounds
  • Ties in voting means no one is knocked out
  • Flip over new villain

Being knocked out

  • You rejoin the team once the villain is defeated
  • You cannot play any attack cards on the villain
  • You draw and discard cards as normal
  • You get to vote
  • Every round, after everyone draws cards, but before they are played, you must hand 1-2 cards to 1 person (not knocked out). Not randomly.

Declaring Hydra

  • Hydra can reveal themselves at any time (even when knocked out).
  • Reveal when not knocked out: damage city by 3
  • Reveal when knocked out: damage city by 1
  • You cannot use your hero's special ability
  • If not knocked out, you still play cards, face up and first
  • If knocked out do one of the following:
    • Hand 1-2 cards to someone (not knocked out)
    • Steal 1 card at random from a chosen player (not knocked out)
  • Each revealed hydra agent who is knocked out damages the city by 1 if a villain survives a round.

Goal

  • SHIELD - Defeat all of the villains before New York City is destroyed.
  • HYDRA - Sabotage SHIELD agents, allowing the villains to destroy the city.

Game End

  • When all of the villains are destroyed or the city is destroyed.
